DVT Left Leg Causing Swelling

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has just issued its final appraisal determination on the use of rivaroxaban (also known as Xarelto) as an alternative to warfarin for the treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and prevention of recurrent DVT.

Estimates suggest that more than 46,000 people in England and Wales will develop a DVT in 2012, rising to more than 50,000 people in 2016, due in part to the rising population.

Today, The VeinCare Centre was fully accredited by Sapheon Inc as a surgical facility to provide the Venaseal™Closure procedure. My team and I treated Martin Dare  by Venaseal™ and he is the very first person in the South West to benefit from this revolutionary nonsurgical treatment for superficial venous reflux. Martin’s procedure was performed under local anaesthetic in just 22 minutes and he was kind enough to allow me to photograph him leaving The VeinCare Centre 20 minutes after the “Super Glue” procedure had been completed.

Last week, I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to visit Dr Jens Alm in his clinic in Hamburg. Dr Alm has probably performed more of the VenaSeal procedures (“superglue” for veins) than anyone else in the world.

I was part of an international group of vein specialists who were receiving intensive instructional training and practical demonstrations of the VenaSeal technique. Dr Alm kindly allowed me to make this short video presentation which was filmed in his treatment suite.
